The Most Auspicious Night of the Year
Maha Shivaratri is the night when Lord Shiva is closest to His devotees. Performing or witnessing the Ekadasha Rudra Abhishekam on this night is said to be equivalent to performing 1,00,000 regular Shiva abhishekams.
What is Ekadasha Rudra Abhishekam
The Ekadasha Rudra (Eleven Rudras) are the eleven fierce forms of Lord Shiva described in the Vedas. In this ritual, 33 Veda-trained pandits simultaneously perform abhishekam (ceremonial bathing) of Shivlingas with milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugarcane juice, rose water, and Ganga jal — while chanting the Sri Rudram and Chamakam 11 times each without pause through the night.
All-Night Schedule
The ritual begins at 10:00 PM with Sankalpa and runs through 4 praharas of the night, each accompanied by a separate Mahaarti. Participants may stay for one or all praharas. Dawn Abhishekam and Maha Prasadam concludes at 5:30 AM.
